US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's efforts to lower Treasury yields have put him at odds with Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh, complicating the latter's communications challenge this week.

Warsh is set to deliver the opening address at the annual central bankers conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and will be expected to address recent Treasury interventions in the bond market.

Last week, the Treasury Department announced that it planned to 'at least double' its purchase of longer-dated bonds, following 30-year US Treasury bond yields reaching their highest level since 2007.

Ehud Ronn, a finance professor at the University of Texas at Austin, described Bessent's effort as having 'very mixed success', with yields remaining high by modern historical benchmarks.
