Binance EU License Bid Blocked by ECB Intervention

Binance's bid for an EU-wide MiCA license through Greece was reportedly blocked after European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde intervened. This move came despite indications that approval was near.

Lagarde asked Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to halt the authorization, citing concerns over Binance's compliance history and dollar stablecoins. However, neither institution has publicly confirmed the reported intervention.

Binance had sought authorization under the Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation (MiCA) through Greece's Hellenic Capital Market Commission. A license would have allowed Binance to offer services across the EU.
