Bitcoin Defies Oil Price Surge and Hawkish Fed with Steady $78k Hold

Bitcoin's price held steady near $78,000 on Tuesday as it refused to fully unwind its August rally despite rising oil prices and hawkish Federal Reserve messaging. The token gained roughly 25% in August, marking its best performance since 2017.

The resilience of Bitcoin is notable given the increasingly difficult cross-asset backdrop, with higher bond yields, a firmer dollar, and renewed geopolitical stress all creating headwinds for risk assets, according to LMAX Group Market Strategist Joel Kruger.

Institutional demand has played a visible role in cushioning the pullback, with spot bitcoin ETFs absorbing $924 million over nine consecutive positive sessions before recording a $202 million outflow on Friday. The inflow streak lines up with broader data pointing to Bitcoin's strongest ETF month of the year.
