Blanche Refuses to Reopen Probe into Powell Over Costly Renovation Project
Attorney General Todd Blanche has decided not to reopen a probe into former Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell over a building renovation project. This decision comes after a government watchdog cleared Powell of any criminal wrongdoing in the costly project.
The investigation was launched by Trump's Justice Department in January, but it was dropped to clear the path for the Senate confirmation of Trump's chosen successor at the Fed, Kevin Warsh.
According to the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) report, the costs for the major renovation project at the Fed's headquarters ballooned from $1.3 billion in February 2020 to $2.4 billion in December 2024.
The Attorney General stated that he was satisfied with the OIG report but acknowledged that Powell did not oversee the project properly.
