BoE Chief Sounds Alarm on AI's Potential Market Risks
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey has sounded a warning about the potential risks posed by artificial intelligence (AI) to financial markets. He stated that huge investments in AI are being closely monitored, and not everyone investing in AI will come out as a winner.
Bailey pointed out that asset prices of some companies could fall due to high expectations surrounding AI's capabilities. He cited the example of Google, which was not initially the market leader in internet search, but eventually became a dominant player.
The Bank of England governor emphasized that AI has great potential to strengthen economic growth, but it also comes with serious risks. He noted that major tech companies such as Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon are spending hundreds of billions of dollars on AI.
