BoE Economist Pill Pushes for Rate Hike to Curb Inflation

Bank of England Chief Economist Huw Pill argued that raising interest rates now could reduce the risk of more aggressive policy in the future to control inflation.

The UK's inflation rate has risen due to the impact of the Iran war, which has fueled price pressures. Pill stated that a rapid and well-communicated rate increase could prevent temporary inflationary pressures from becoming persistent.

This move would help dampen price and wage dynamics, potentially keeping inflation above target for longer.

Pill previously voted to raise interest rates in July alongside two other MPC members, but they were outvoted by others waiting for greater clarity on the Iran war's impact.
