BoE Expected to Hold Interest Rates Amid Rising Inflation

The Bank of England is expected to keep interest rates unchanged on Thursday despite rising inflation in the United Kingdom. According to economists, a majority of the nine-member Monetary Policy Committee will vote to maintain the bank's main rate at 3.75% for the sixth consecutive meeting.

The consumer prices index rose to 3.1% in August, a five-month high, driven by increases in fuel and airfare prices. However, economists believe that wages and the labor market remain relatively soft, limiting the impact of imported price pressures on domestic wages and prices.

David Rees, head of global economics at Schroders, stated that 'That should limit the extent to which imported price pressures become embedded in domestic wages and prices.'

Economists forecast higher inflation in coming months due to an expected increase in energy bills beginning in October. As a result, financial markets anticipate interest rate hikes at one of the next two meetings, either in November or December.
