BoE Holds Interest Rates, Eyes Potential Hike Amid Inflation Fears
The Bank of England (BoE) has kept interest rates unchanged despite rising inflation, but financial markets are expecting an increase soon.
At its latest meeting, the Monetary Policy Committee voted six to three in favor of keeping rates at their current level. However, the majority acknowledged that inflationary pressures due to the Iran war may necessitate a rate hike in the near future.
Bank Governor Andrew Bailey warned that higher global energy costs could have a significant impact on price and wage setting in the UK if volatility persists.
The minutes accompanying the decision showed that inflation is expected to rise to around 4% in the first quarter of next year, exceeding the BoE's target rate of 2%.
