BOE Holds Key Rate Amid Inflation Fears
The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) held its interest rate at 3.75 percent in a closely watched decision, but not without controversy. In a 6-3 vote, the MPC led by Governor Andrew Bailey opted to keep the bank rate unchanged, which is the lowest it has been since June last year.
The decision comes as renewed tensions in the Middle East have reignited fears of high inflation becoming persistent. This had prompted some analysts to expect a rate hike to combat potential price increases.
