Trump's Tariffs Face Backlash from Supporters and Economists

President Donald Trump visited General Motors in Michigan and touted his tariffs as the reason for the company's success. However, many metrics suggest that tariffs have actually cost businesses billions of dollars and contributed to inflation.

Trump's rally was attended by a crowd of cheering supporters, but even some of them expressed concerns about high prices and the impact of tariffs on the economy. Lisa Scherer, a 64-year-old supporter who drove from Ohio, acknowledged that gas prices are 'hurting a lot' and it's 'very rough' to afford things.

The Supreme Court had struck down many of Trump's tariffs, but his administration has launched new import taxes and plans to impose 50% tariffs on imports from Canada. Michigan relies heavily on trade with Canada, and the tariffs have been a point of contention for automakers, which have long said they increase production costs.
