BoE Holds Rates Steady Amid Concerns Over Energy Prices

The Bank of England (BoE) maintained its decision to keep the Bank Rate unchanged at 3.75%, as widely expected by economists.

Fresh inflation and labour market data released ahead of the meeting indicated no imminent need for rate hikes, which aligns with the BoE's decision to hold rates steady.

BoE Governor Andrew Bailey warned that if energy markets do not improve and the economy continues to look resilient, a rate hike could be expected in the absence of spillovers to broader price-setting.

The market reaction was muted, with GBP weakening on the decision and gilt yields trading lower as markets were priced for more hawkish central bank rhetoric after listening in to recent Fed and ECB comments.
