BOE Keeps Rate Unchanged Amid Ongoing Conflict and Rising Inflation
The Bank of England has kept its interest rate at 3.75% as expected by markets, despite concerns about rising inflation and the ongoing Middle East conflict.
At a monetary policy meeting, the committee voted 6-3 to keep the Bank Rate unchanged, with three members advocating for a 25-basis-point increase to 4%. The minority argued that higher energy costs would generate second-round effects as wage negotiations approach in early 2027.
The bank's forecast suggests inflation will peak at around 4% in early 2027, driven by ongoing conflict and subsequent price increases. However, the majority judged that tight financial conditions and a soft labor market provide sufficient restraint for now.
