BoE Keeps Rates Unchanged Amid Dovish Statements
The Bank of England (BoE) has kept its key interest rate at 3.75%, despite a hawkish vote split among policymakers, which saw three members favoring a rate hike.
The market reaction was to focus on the dovish statements made by the BoE, leading investors to scale back their bets on further monetary tightening to just 38 basis points by year-end.
The BoE's interest rate ceiling is now seen as restrictive, with Governor Andrew Bailey warning that a protracted conflict in the Middle East could force a tightening of monetary policy. However, this contingent scenario was not enough to support the currency.
