BoE Leaves Rates Unchanged, Hints at Future Hikes Amid Inflation Concerns
The Bank of England (BoE) has kept its key interest rate steady at 3.75% in a decision widely anticipated by economists.
However, BoE Governor Andrew Bailey hinted that rate hikes may be necessary in the coming months to control inflation.
The central bank noted that global energy costs have had a limited effect on British prices and salaries so far, but warned that ongoing disruptions in transportation and energy supplies make it difficult to predict future price movements.
BoE policymakers now expect consumer price inflation to exceed 4% early next year, up from their previous forecast of 3.2% peak in October or November this year.
