BoJ Board Members Agree Accommodative Conditions Persist
The Bank of Japan (BoJ) board members have agreed that financial conditions in Japan remain accommodative, according to the BoJ Minutes of the July meeting. The bank's monetary policy outlook was discussed by the members, who noted that the current policy stance is still aimed at stimulating the economy and fueling inflation.
The BoJ has been implementing an ultra-loose monetary policy since 2013, which includes Quantitative and Qualitative Easing (QQE) to provide liquidity. In 2016, the bank further loosened policy by introducing negative interest rates and directly controlling the yield of its 10-year government bonds.
The massive stimulus caused the Yen to depreciate against its main currency peers, exacerbating in 2022 and 2023 due to a widening differential with other currencies. However, this trend partly reversed in 2024 when the BoJ decided to abandon its ultra-loose policy stance.
