BOJ Boosts Benchmark Rate to 31-Year High
Japan's central bank, the Bank of Japan (BOJ), has raised its benchmark interest rate to 1.25%, marking a significant increase after three decades of near-zero rates.
The decision comes as part of an effort by the BOJ to normalize monetary policy and combat deflation in Japan's economy.
Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda stated that the decision was made after considering various risks, including global market demand for artificial intelligence and currency fluctuations.
Analysts expect another rate hike could occur later this year or early next year as inflation remains close to the BOJ's 2% target.
