The Bank of Japan (BOJ) Governor Ueda's hawkish remarks have strengthened the yen, causing it to trim its earlier losses. In a press conference following the BOJ's decision to hike rates, Ueda stated that Japan's economy continues to experience moderate growth and core inflation is gradually approaching the 2% target.

However, Ueda warned of a risk of exceeding this target due to more aggressive price and wage increases by companies. He emphasized that the Bank will consistently continue its monetary tightening cycle and adjust the degree of easing based on economic and price indicators.

The BOJ Governor also signaled that potential resistance from dovish board members would not stop the bank from executing its plan. This hawkish stance was interpreted as a clear signal that further rate hikes are inevitable, causing the USDJPY exchange rate to slide below 157 levels.
