BOJ Joins Unconventional Measures with QE Expansion
The Bank of Japan has joined forces with the European Central Bank and the Federal Reserve in taking unprecedented measures to combat economic downturn. The BOJ announced a significant expansion of its asset purchase program, increasing it by JPY10 trillion to a total of JPY80 trillion. This move will be equally divided between bonds and bills. The bank also eliminated the 0.1% minimum bid for rinban operations and extended the program until the end of next year.
The BOJ cited its downgraded assessment of the economy as justification for these actions. While some may view this as a bold step, others might see it as a necessary measure to stimulate growth in the face of economic uncertainty.
