BOJ Minutes Reveal Hawk-Dove Standoff Over Rate Hikes
The Bank of Japan's September monetary policy meeting minutes revealed a standoff between hawkish and dovish members, with some advocating for accelerating rate hikes towards target levels.
A majority of the nine-member policy board judged inflationary pressures to be still accumulating, making subsequent hikes necessary. However, two members, Toichiro Asada and Ayano Sato, cast dissenting votes against the September rate hike.
The meeting also saw a rare intervention by Economic Minister Minoru Kiuchi, who urged the central bank to carefully examine the cumulative effects of past rate hikes and incorporate its neutral rate estimates into consideration.
