BOJ Policymakers Eye Faster Rate Hikes Amid Inflation Concerns
The Bank of Japan (BOJ) policymakers discussed the need for faster interest rate hikes in their July meeting, minutes showed.
The BOJ raised rates in June and September, but some members called for even more frequent hikes to combat inflation risks.
'Markets appeared to be expecting the BOJ to raise interest rates with intervals of about six months. But the pace of rate hikes could be faster than such market expectations,' one member said.
The BOJ's policy rate is near the bottom of its estimated neutral range, and some members want it raised to ensure policy normalisation and flexibility.
