The Bank of Japan (BOJ) is expected to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged at its two-day monetary policy meeting, according to Principal Asset Management.

Investors will be closely scrutinizing Governor Kazuo Ueda's guidance for clues on the timing and pace of further policy normalization.

Howe Chung Wan, Head of Asian Fixed Income at Principal Asset Management, said investors will pay close attention to whether Governor Ueda adopts a more hawkish tone, which could strengthen expectations for additional rate hikes this year.

A more hawkish tone from Governor Ueda could pave the way for a September rate hike and potentially two additional increases this year, compared with the single hike currently priced in by markets.
