BOJ Releases Comprehensive September Tankan Data Set
The Bank of Japan released its Comprehensive Data Set for September's Tankan survey on October 2, 2026. The dataset is a massive 244-page collection of statistical tables in six Excel workbooks and one full-data package. According to the release page, dated October 2, the data set includes information on business conditions, domestic and overseas supply and demand conditions, inventory levels, production capacity, employment conditions, financial position, lending attitudes of financial institutions, interest rates on loans, and more.
The survey's Summary and Outline were released a day earlier, on October 1. The data is based on responses from 9,104 sample enterprises, with a response rate of 99.4 percent over the period from August 26 to September 30. The Bank's Research and Statistics Department prepared the summary.
The Comprehensive Data Set includes annual projections in year-to-year percent-change terms for various economic indicators, such as sales, domestic sales, exports, current profits, net income, fixed investment, software investment, land purchasing expenses, R&D investment, and more. The dataset also covers inflation outlooks and financial institution data.
