Bank of Japan (BoJ) board member Hajime Takata emphasized that the central bank needs to consider a broad range of options in its monetary policy response. He stated that conventional semi-annual rate hikes may not be sufficient, especially as interest rate hikes are becoming a global trend due to economic growth and AI-linked investment.

Takata noted that 2026 marks a regime change, and the BoJ needs a different approach from the traditional rate hike pace. He added that the bank should consider a more nimble approach with rate hikes, as neutral rates could differ from conventional analysis-based levels.

The market reaction to Takata's comments saw the USD/JPY pair rise 0.10% on the day at 160.35.
