The Bank of Japan's Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino emphasized that the central bank will continue to raise its benchmark interest rate, while adjusting monetary support based on economic and price developments.

Himino stated this at a financial conference in Tokyo, reiterating the BoJ's commitment to normalizing monetary policy after years of ultra-low rates.

The pace and timing of future hikes will depend on actual economic data, particularly wage growth and inflation trends, Himino noted.

This comes as the BoJ has already raised rates twice in 2024, bringing the policy rate to 0.5% as of February 2025.
