Global bond yields have surged to multi-year highs due to intensifying inflation and fiscal concerns. The latest selloff reflects rising oil prices, expectations of tighter monetary policy in Japan, and persistent worries over government finances.

The U.S. 30-year Treasury yield reached its highest level since 2007, climbing nearly 40 basis points in July, its biggest monthly increase since December 2024. The yield was last around 5.32%. Rising oil prices, fueled by the fading expectations of a lasting peace agreement between the United States and Iran, have contributed to inflation concerns.

In Japan, the benchmark 10-year government bond yield climbed to just below 3%, its highest level in about three decades. The increase is attributed to inflation concerns and expectations that the Bank of Japan could raise interest rates as early as September.
