Brexit: London Business Leaders Overwhelmingly Oppose
The business community in London has been vocal about its disapproval of Brexit. The annual E2Exchange gala event, where senior business figures come together to discuss industry trends, has seen a consistent show of hands against Brexit.
Lord Karan Bilimoria, the founder of Cobra Beer and former president of the CBI, often asks for a show of hands at these events. Not once in several years has anyone raised their hand in favor of Brexit. On the other hand, every single person lifts their arm when asked if they think it was bad for business.
The opposition to Brexit is universal among London's business leaders, who cite increased costs and bureaucratic hurdles as major drawbacks. They also mention the difficulty of trading with neighboring countries and the loss of skilled workers from the EU.
According to a report by Sadiq Khan's economists, the UK economy has suffered due to Brexit, settling 5% below its pre-Brexit path. Employment and wage levels have dropped in sectors reliant on EU workers, and there is no evidence of sustainable productivity gains.
