Burnham Vows to Take Tough Decisions on UK Economy Amid Inflation Rise
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has vowed to make tough decisions to keep the UK economy on track. Speaking about the recent data showing a rise in inflation, Burnham emphasized that his government will take action to help people while also applying prudence to the economy's running.
The inflation rate rose to 3.1% in August, a five-month high, and has added to the challenges facing Finance Minister John Healey. The data also revealed that Britain is more vulnerable to surging oil prices from the Middle East conflict than other countries.
Burnham's comments come after criticism from former Bank of England official Andy Haldane, who accused his government of being a 'traditional tax-and-spend socialist' administration. Burnham rejected this characterization, stating that he has already taken difficult decisions as Prime Minister and is willing to make more.
