A survey conducted by KPMG has revealed that Canadian business leaders are urging Ottawa to swiftly implement its economic agenda, removing red tape and fast-tracking key projects.

According to the survey, half of the businesses polled want the federal government to prioritize the removal of regulatory hurdles and expedite a new West Coast oil pipeline. Forty-seven percent of respondents also expressed a desire for Ottawa to accelerate major project spending, while 43% believe tax reforms could help boost the economy.

The survey was conducted before the United States threatened to impose 50% tariffs on a wide range of Canadian goods beginning August 19. However, it still provides insight into how business leaders are thinking about trade volatility and their desire for Ottawa to focus on actions within its control to build economic resilience.
