France's benchmark CAC 40 index closed at 8,278.77 points on Friday, down 7.63 points from Thursday's finish of 8,286.40.

The index opened at 8,266.65 and climbed to an intraday high of 8,297.07 in early trading before sliding to a session low of 8,254.68 in the mid-afternoon.

The pullback was largely due to the US Labor Department's August non-farm payrolls report, which showed employers added 162,000 jobs in August, more than triple the consensus estimate of roughly 53,000 to 56,000.

US Treasury yields jumped on the data, with the 10-year yield pushing back above 4.8% after trading closer to 4.75% earlier in the session, while the 2-year yield spiked above 4.41%.
