The federal government has organized a Canada Investment Summit to take place in Toronto on September 14 and 15, aiming to unlock up to $1 trillion in national and foreign investment. The summit is being organized by Prime Minister Mark Carney's team, including the Canada Pension Plan and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board.

Attendees reportedly include top executives from major firms such as BlackRock Inc., Blackstone Inc., Berkshire Hathaway Inc., and JPMorgan Chase & Co., as well as representatives of Saudi Arabia's public investment fund. The event will focus on industrial strategies across various sectors, including defence, housing, infrastructure, and climate industries.

The government has outlined its approach in a series of reports, which include the Canada Strong Fund, backed by $25 billion in borrowed funds. However, critics argue that this model is flawed, citing a report that found it did not function as planned in the UK, where Prime Minister Carney previously served as governor of the Bank of England.
