Canada and France Strengthen Ties in Space and Economy
Prime Minister Mark Carney and French President Emmanuel Macron met in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, a French territory off the coast of Newfoundland, to discuss strengthening their countries' relationship. They agreed to work together on space infrastructure, including developing common launch systems and ground-based reception facilities.
The two leaders also pledged to expand economic growth, energy transition, and climate resilience through joint efforts between Atlantic Canada and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. Their respective chambers of commerce are expected to sign an agreement in the coming weeks.
Carney's visit marked a historic step in their growing relationship, with Macron supporting Canada's future involvement in the European Union. The French president also announced the creation of a new Canada-France Polar Research Forum, set to hold its first meeting in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.
