Canada Discusses Trade Concessions with US Amid Ongoing Tariff Threats
Canada and the US are in talks to resolve trade disputes that have led to tariffs on Canadian imports. A source close to the negotiations revealed that Ottawa is considering concessions to avoid new US tariffs, which were threatened in July. As part of the proposed deal, Canada would remove tariffs on US autos.
The move comes as both countries face economic challenges due to ongoing trade tensions and the Middle East conflict. The US lost 23,000 jobs in July, contrary to economists' predictions of 83,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1%, while Canada's economy added 75,100 positions in July.
Canada is also dealing with its own economic slowdown, as indicated by the Ivey Purchasing Managers Index (PMI), which fell to 55.1 in July from 56.2 in June. The PMI measures employment and price increases in various sectors.
