Canada's economy grew at a rate of 3.3% in the second quarter, exceeding economists' expectations and providing some relief from earlier recession concerns.

The latest figures from Statistics Canada show that real gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 3.3% annualized in Q2, with exports leading the charge at 3.6%. The resurgence of passenger car and light truck shipments was a major contributor to this growth.

Residential investment also played a significant role, as the resale housing market experienced a surge over the spring, particularly in Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia.

The Bank of Canada's next interest rate announcement on September 2 will likely take these new figures into consideration.
