Canada, Germany Ink Intelligence-Sharing Deal Amid EU Ties Push
Canada and Germany have signed an intelligence-sharing deal that will allow them to exchange classified information on defense, security, and economic issues. The agreement was announced by Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand at a signing ceremony with her German counterpart, Johann Wadepuhl, in Ottawa.
Anand referenced Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's pitch for closer ties between Canada and the European Union last week, highlighting Germany as a key partner in this effort.
The new General Security of Information Agreement will strengthen cooperation on trade, innovation, and advanced technologies, according to Anand. It will also contribute to building a stronger Canadian economy, she said.
Wadepuhl noted that both Canada and Europe are navigating 'huge changes in the international order' and emphasized the importance of knowing who can be relied upon.
