Canada-Indonesia CEPA Talks Advance at Toronto Summit

Canada and Indonesia are strengthening their economic partnership as they discuss the next steps for their Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) at the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto. International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu and Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, reaffirmed their commitment to the CEPA during the summit.

The ministers highlighted opportunities under the CEPA for improved market access, investor protection, and expanded cooperation in sectors such as agri-food, seafood, mining, energy, and digital economy. Bilateral merchandise trade between Canada and Indonesia is projected to reach $6.7 billion in 2025.

Sidhu welcomed Indonesia's recent progress toward ratifying the agreement and expressed his hope for its entry into force. He also thanked Hartarto for Indonesia's role as co-chair of the ASEAN-Canada free trade agreement negotiations and for its leadership in pushing those talks towards conclusion.
