Canada Jobs Boom Continues with Third Straight Month of Gains

Canada's economy added 75,000 jobs in July, pushing the unemployment rate down to 6.4 per cent.

This is the third consecutive month of job gains, exceeding expectations of a 20,000-job increase and flat unemployment rate at 6.5 per cent.

Claire Fan, senior economist at the Royal Bank of Canada, described the report as 'a pretty solid outcome for broader labour market trends in the summer'.

However, Fan also noted that trade conflicts with the US remain a risk to Canada's economy.

Oilpatch hiring has remained unchanged despite robust oil production and export demand, but health care, social assistance, and public administration accounted for job gains instead.
