Canada On Right Track to Addressing Housing Affordability Crisis
The Bank of Canada believes it is on the right track to addressing the country's housing affordability crisis, but acknowledges that significant progress will take time.
Currency watchdog Carolyn Rogers stated this during a meeting with business representatives in Victoria, British Columbia. She emphasized that increasing housing supply, improving planning and infrastructure, adopting flexible regulations, and providing incentives are essential to address the issue.
Rogers noted that rising home prices have led to higher rents and made it more difficult for households to purchase homes. However, she warned that a sharp decline in home prices could reduce overall household wealth, creating a challenging policy trade-off.
