Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney has reaffirmed his country's importance as a partner for the United States in key areas. Speaking at the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto, Carney emphasized that the North American neighbors have maintained close ties 'even at times of disagreement.'

'These arrangements work when we engage as true partners that respect each other's traditions and sovereignty,' Carney told top global investors.

He highlighted key sectors attractive to global capital, including critical minerals and energy. Canada aims to build a new pipeline to the Pacific coast, which would carry at least one million barrels of low-emission Alberta oil per day to Asian markets.

Carney acknowledged that US trade hostility should be viewed as the new normal, but warned that Canada needs to diversify its economy. He noted that roughly two-thirds of all Canadian exports head south of the border, a market that cannot be easily replaced.
