Canada's 10-Year Bond Yield Rises Amid Inflation Concerns
Canada's 10-year bond yield rose on Wednesday as investors weighed concerns about inflation and economic growth. The benchmark yield reached 3.862%, up 3.2 basis points from the previous day, according to market data.
The increase comes as markets assess competing signals for the Bank of Canada. Governor Tiff Macklem noted that new U.S. tariffs could push Canadian fourth-quarter growth below 1%, while elevated oil prices linked to Middle East tensions could add to inflation pressures.
Canada's annual inflation rate is currently around 3%, above the central bank's 2% target, leaving policymakers balancing the risk of weaker economic activity against the possibility that higher energy costs keep price pressures elevated.
