Canada's Big Six Banks Join Forces for Secure Tokenized Deposits
Six major Canadian banks have joined forces to develop a secure CAD tokenized deposit solution. The collaborative effort, which includes Bank of Montreal (BMO), Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), National Bank of Canada (NBC), Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), The Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank), and TD Bank Group (TD), aims to create a more efficient and programmable payment system for Canadians.
The project's first phase focuses on moving tokenized deposits across Canadian financial institutions, with the long-term goal of connecting with other emerging digital assets initiatives. This initiative seeks to drive responsible innovation and facilitate broad participation in the digital money ecosystem, ultimately delivering faster payments while preserving safety, stability, and regulatory oversight.
The development of this tokenized deposit solution is a response to the global evolution of digital money. The banks involved believe that Canada's payments infrastructure must remain competitive and secure in order to keep pace with international trends.
