Canada's Big Six Banks Join Forces on Deposit Token System
Canada's six major banks are exploring the development of a Canadian-dollar deposit token system. The project aims to streamline money transfers between financial institutions by using digital representations of actual bank deposits.
The first phase will test the transfer of these tokens among participating lenders, which include Bank of Montreal, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, National Bank of Canada, Royal Bank of Canada, Scotiabank, and TD Bank Group.
In the long term, the banks plan to link this deposit token system with other digital-asset projects. This could potentially expand its use cases and increase adoption.
