Canada's Economic Potential Hinges on Fixing Value Chain Gaps
A new report from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and PwC Canada has identified five critical sectors that have the potential to reshape Canada's economy for the better, but are being held back by holes in their value chains.
The sectors include artificial intelligence and quantum computing, mining and critical minerals, energy, defence, and agri-food.
According to the report, 'Beyond Potential: Turning Canada's Advantages into Growth and a Better Life for All', Canada has many starting advantages in these areas but is missing out on building up companies, infrastructure, processing capacity, and commercialization pathways around those advantages.
The report points out that critical links in the value chain remain underdeveloped across the five sectors, including growth-stage financing and commercialization, permitting, infrastructure, processing capacity, procurement, and specialized talent.
Closing these gaps would help Canadian businesses scale, hire, and put down deeper roots for long-term economic gain, said Candace Laing, President and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
