Canada's Inflation Rates Rise Amid Looming Trade Tensions
Canada's inflation data for July revealed a 3% year-over-year increase in the consumer price index (CPI), up from 2.8% in June, with prices climbing 0.5% on a monthly basis.
The primary driver of this rise was gasoline, which surged 25.7% year over year due to Middle East hostilities disrupting energy markets.
However, excluding gasoline, inflation held steady at 2.2% for the third consecutive month.
Inflation remains a concern for Canada's economy, particularly with US tariffs of 50% on various Canadian goods set to take effect on August 19, a move that could have significant implications for trade and economic growth.
