Canada's Job Market in Focus as Trade War Escalates
Statistics Canada is set to release its latest labour force survey for August today. The report comes as the country faces an escalating trade war with the United States.
A Reuters poll of economists predicts employers added 15,000 jobs in August, while the unemployment rate is expected to remain steady at 6.4 per cent, according to LSEG Data & Analytics. This follows a significant gain of 75,000 jobs in July.
The Canadian economy has been impacted by the ongoing trade tensions with the US. President Donald Trump imposed fresh tariffs on some $28 billion of Canadian goods last month, prompting Ottawa to respond with its own round of counter-tariffs set to take effect next week.
