The British Pound (GBP) has edged higher against the US Dollar (USD), trading near 1.3530 in the early Asian session on Friday.

This move follows hawkish remarks from Bank of England (BoE) policymaker Huw Pill, who stated that raising interest rates now would help reduce the chance of more aggressive tightening in future to tame inflation.

Pill emphasized that a rate hike need not be the start of a prolonged and aggressive series of increases, suggesting a near-term hike while tempering bets on an extended series of increases.

The US August employment report is due later on Friday, with traders closely monitoring its release for hints about the US interest rate outlook.
