Canada's Job Market Surges with Unexpected 75,100 New Positions
The Canadian economy added 75,100 jobs in July, significantly surpassing the expected growth of 20,000 jobs. This marks the largest three-month employment gain since before U.S. President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on Canadian goods.
The unemployment rate fell to 6.4%, its lowest level in two years, from 6.5% in June. The jobless rate for returning students between the ages of 20-24 was 6.3%, the lowest since July 2018.
Economists and experts attribute this positive trend to the economy's recovery path. However, trade uncertainty still looms as U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a new round of 50% tariffs on Canadian goods starting August 19.
