Canada's Tariff War with US: A Path to Economic Ruin
Canada's decision to impose counter tariffs on US products has been met with criticism from Dr. Gbenga Adeoye, a Lawyer and Chartered Accountant. According to Dr. Adeoye, this move is economically suicidal for Canada.
In an interview, he shared the struggles of various provinces in Canada, including unemployment and job losses. He cited statistics that 42,000 jobs were lost in August 2026 alone.
Dr. Adeoye emphasized that the US market supports a significant portion of Canada's economy, accounting for over 70% of its exports. He also pointed out that living costs are already high in Canada, making it cheaper for Americans to work in Canada and live in the US.
The expert warned that attempting to fight the US through tariffs will lead to severe economic consequences for Canada. He suggested reversing counter tariffs against US products, arranging a peaceful meeting with Trump, investing heavily in mining, and wooing American investors to Canada as potential solutions.
