Canada's tourism industry is experiencing a massive spike as a result of the US tariff war, with record-breaking numbers reported for the summer season. According to Statistics Canada, tourism spending in the country saw a 5.6 per cent increase year over year in the first quarter of 2026, reaching $29.5 billion.

Ambassatours Gray Line CEO Sean Buckland attributed this growth to increased American visitors taking advantage of the Canadian dollar and Canadians staying home for their vacations. 'We are having increased Americans take advantage of the Canadian dollar and we are seeing increased Canadians stay home,' he said.

International visitors are also contributing to the surge in tourism, with many choosing to visit Canada as an alternative to traveling to the US. Donna Riani and her husband from Boston were visiting Halifax for the first time, despite recent tariff tensions between the two countries.
