Canadian Banks Collaborate on Secure Tokenized Deposits Initiative
Six major Canadian banks are working together to develop a secure tokenized deposit solution in Canadian dollars. The collaborative effort aims to create a competitive and safe digital money ecosystem for Canadians.
The project focuses on tokenized deposits, which would enable faster, more efficient, and programmable payments within the country's financial institutions. This is just the first phase of the initiative, with a long-term goal of connecting it with other emerging digital assets.
The participating banks include Bank of Montreal (BMO), Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), National Bank of Canada (NBC), Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), The Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank), and TD Bank Group (TD). They anticipate the inclusion of other deposit-taking institutions at a later time.
