Canadian Business World Braces for Busy Week Ahead with Key Announcements
The Canadian business world is gearing up for a busy week ahead, with several key events and announcements scheduled to take place. On Wednesday, the Bank of Canada will release its summary of the governing council's monetary policy deliberations following its interest rate decision earlier this month.
The central bank held its policy rate at 2.25 per cent, citing signs of improvement in the economy, including growth picking up and inflation projected to ease gradually from its recent spike.
Also on Wednesday, Canadian Pacific Kansas City will release its second-quarter financial and operating results after the markets close, having set a new June monthly record for transporting Canadian grain and grain products, moving 2.8 million metric tonnes earlier this month.
Loblaw Cos. Ltd. is scheduled to report its second-quarter results on Thursday morning before markets open, following the completion of the sale of its PC Financial business to EQB Inc.
Statistics Canada will publish its figures for gross domestic product by industry in May as well as its preliminary estimate for June and the second quarter as a whole on Friday. Enbridge Inc. will also release its second-quarter results on Friday morning before markets open, having recently broken ground on a $4-billion natural gas pipeline expansion in B.C.
